Idea: Film Fest based on *LOCAL* Culture, Adventure?

What about a Great Lakes Outdoor Film Fest? — With films about our region’s outdoor culture.

But I’m flexible: a fest with *any* kind of films about this region would be dandy.

I’m *cranky* because from what I can tell “adventure” film-fests are about mountains, big-air, and exotica.

We need to push everything to GO LOCAL, man!

At least, it’s good make sure there’s a local option out there. It’s gotta get in the mix.

For people in Michigan a mountain-based adventure film fest has only titillation to offer. Sure, travel is a legit form of consumption, but there’s a LOT more to adventure than spending more money, climbing higher or getting bigger air. Thrilling and interesting are in the eye of the beholder, right? We Michiganders KNOW that our state and region have a lot to offer. I’d like to see THAT celebrated in a fest.

Don’t the folks in mountainous areas need a change of pace, too?

And I don’t just mean the Great Lakes. Are there other regionally focused fests out there?

I see there’s a fest just for Midwest filmmakers — but I doubt their flicks have to be ABOUT the Midwest. Sure, maybe most are set hereabouts, but I think we need a LITTLE more. www.midwestfilm.com

I know that there’s a bike film-fest and a paddling film-fest.

And, sure, people like to go on imaginary trips when they go to film-fests or adventure movie fests. So that’s what they should be called. “The Fantasy & Escapism Fest.” And, yeah, travelogs are about travel. Fine. Call ’em that.

Anyway, maybe there’d be a market for and some content out there to put together a Great Lakes or Michigan based outdoor or general fest. To start close to home.

Maybe there’s something like this out there already? Names, links?
