Commuting: a Funny, Thoughtful, Macro/Micro Book on It
May 05, 2012

It's not just about the bike.

In the Bike Snob's second book he does better than in his debut book, I think, because here he really knows what he's talking about.

I'm a ways into it and I've also hopped around in it quite a bit. Offhand it seems far better than his first. He knows commuting and that's what he's covering here, with both big-picture and micro views, and with humor and grace.

(He didn't know in his first book. It seemed off -- too general, beginnery, not NYCBS, not funny, to me. Actually, this one sometimes still clunks, unlike my visits to NYCBS. Why is he worse in books?)

I just finished the chapter on how 9/11 gave him hope in a way that applied to commuting. It was basically the best 9/11 writing I've seen -- about the goodness that lurks beneath the road rage.

(If you click on this link OYB will get a cut of anything you order on that visit.)
