Tour Divide Starts Tomorrow!
June 07, 2012

Get ready to follow a truly captivating sports experience.

This year it's even more barebones than ever, as it seems like the officials and their website haven't been active since last year.

The racers are ready to roll anyway! This race is personal. It doesn't need any structure at all.

So, most riders have rented SPOTS and you can follow them here: http://trackleaders.com/tourdivide.

And the usual bike forum is buzzing already: http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,2410.0.html.

The phoned-in podcasts are also neat to hear: http://mtbcast.com/site2/.

Otherwise, we're on our own!

Whups, many racers seem to have their own blogs chirping along -- gotta google those. At least a few have announced and maybe even covered their prep up to race start. We'll see what happens during the race! It's always a surprise! So many things happen along the way...

(My favorite hero to date is Deanna Adams the 20-yr-old vegan girl who did it on a homemade fixie. She even got herself relegated by skipping a few miles somewhere. Icing on the cake! I can't find her latest online but here's a blog: http://deannadares.blogspot.com. http://ultrarunbikevegan.blogspot.com. My other main TD hero is Matthew Lee, who I got to meet en-route once by accident. Now there's a cosmic yet laser-focused racer dude. But there are so many others! Kent the Turtle who did it SS and creeped up to podium-level at one point quite near the end, spurring his startled geared rivals into a frenzy. Paul Howard the UK journalist did it, too, and wrote a book. How did he stay so sharp along the way? But so many stories...)

Ready, set, roll!!!
