The Vintagent: Hard-Riding Vintage Motorcycle Action

Here’s a blog for folks who love vintage motorcycles. And who love to ride them, hard. And work on them. And dress up creatively and vintagely. It’s like a functional Steampunk scene. Some of the bikes are “never existed” models built custom from vintage parts, souped up, made outrageous.

You wouldn’t want to overlook one of their main sponsors, the Oily Rag. Know it? It’s a term for a scene built around riding “as is” vintage bikes. Oily Rag is like Barn Find. Original patina — even rust — is becoming the new value. Restoration and renovation are losing cachet and being thought of as ruining time. I suppose they fix what decay is threatening an item. Or maybe not? If it’s not irreplaceble then why not use it up? Why not let nature have its way and enjoy the ride? …It’s doing the same to us, after all. (Now I feel bad about buffing up my recent yard sale 3-speed. Its rust DID look neat. And I do like a lot of patina. I could see getting its parts lubed and working again then leaving the rest. I suppose it’s more Dieselpunk than Steampunk at that point, eh?)

All their posts are dandy, but I suggest scrolling back a few to, well, this one, about the “Soviets are Coming” from May 30, 2013. …Glamor, too, even.

Or this one, “Vintage Revival Montlhery” from May 27. So much action!
