Ruby
in Paradise
cover Wistful. Perfect. Ashley's first flick. Victor Nunez' first flick (I think. Next flick: Ulee's Gold, also good.) A total winner. Let's move from the sticks to a trashy part of the world, the Strip. Let's try to get along. What do I really want from life anyway? The bad guys aren't even bad. Everyone just gives it their shot, tries with what they have, with what they know. This town and movie features in quite a few Jack Saunders books. Jack saw the little crew while they wre filming.

of quirk flicks. The resurrection of Jack Palance steals the show. (Better
than his "City Slickers" send-up.) Splendid desert western setting.

Raising Arizona coverALIGN="BOTTOM" WIDTH="76" HEIGHT="140" NATURALSIZEFLAG="3"> Redneck hilarity that never quits. "Never leave a man behind!" Every actor pulls out the stops for this one. Great dialog. Hilarious music. "Ain't that you all's raison d'etre?" You know it already, I'm sure, but Nicholas Cage, Holly Hunter, John Goodman and his sidekick...all great. But even
the no-names here get GREAT lines and scenes. Hilarious music, too. Let's yodel!

Next Door cover Yuppies find trouble next door. The whitecollars (James Woods and wife) snub a blue collar neighbor (Randy Quaid---bubba!) who's smarter and braver and wilder than they are. And more desperate. How did they get what they have? What does he think about that?
