Canada Ski Marathon: Peak of Ski Culture

Here’s a really nice video series about a guy doing the Gold CDB “Coureur du Bois” 160km 2-day CSM. www.csm-mcs.com

They ski 50+ miles a day and camp out by bonfires at night, carrying all their own stuff.

This is a longtime classic event that hundreds do for the Gold and thousands do for the Silver and Bronze and sections in between.

The course goes between Quebec and Ottawa (I like to imagine) — up north Canada, anyway.

It’s run by volunteers. It’s a point to point. It’s a Canadian National Identity sort of event, you can tell.

There are a lot of big hills.

You have to progress up the ranks stepwise. Bronze is skiing the whole thing, sleeping in the gym. Silver is sleeping outside but sagged. Gold is carrying your own gear.

I think this event is the next step for me in my enjoyment of all-day ski outings.
