I want to set up a XC course like it’s CX…

That’s my plan!

CX (cyclocross) is so much fun with its tricky handling flow that I think an XC ski course would be just as much fun if set up similarly.

(I also think that CC running courses should be set up more like CX. Apparently many nowadays are designed to be flat’n’fast. I see the place for that but also for scrambling skills courses.)

I wonder if anyone other than me will be interested in all this! 🙂

Only mtbikers seem interested in skiing on trails (hiking/biking trails).

Maybe only CXers will want to ski in a CX-like situation?

If this trend keeps up, I’ll laff myself silly. Who’s missing? Skiers! But I wouldn’t be surprised. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if one just couldn’t get skiers interested in skiing either trails or tricky courses? They want grooming and that’s that! Well, we’ll see…

So I see the XC>CX having no grooming — KISS! — and tight corners and bermed and banked uphills. Offcamber downhill corners — sounds fun! Steep scramble-ups that aren’t huge but which do take work. CX hills can be, what, 10-50 feet up — sounds good! Crazy downhills. Put some minijumps/whoops in them, too!

But I don’t mean a course that’s much like the Red Bull Nordix stuff. Those courses aren’t hardly skiable due to overwhelming gravity/g-forces. They’re maybe more suitable for edged skis and rigid boots. (OK, if you have that gear, why not.) CX doesn’t have such huge speeds or g-forces but are still plenty lively and even thrilling at times. They’re not like Mt-bike or MTB-Downhill courses but do have small doses of such features.

(((UPDATE 2015: I built a new CX course in downtown Lansing that is such a thrill to ride. Then in the winter I used it, and added more features to it, as a XC ski course! And it was even more fun to ski! Best anywhere!)))
