For Immediate Release

Martha Bishop, a small-town, out-of-state fabric artist, will have a quilt show at the Small World Coffee cafe at 14 Witherspoon, Princeton, from Dec. 7 to Jan. 4.

Martha, of Williamston, Michigan, roomed with Jessica Durrie, co-owner of SWC, during college, in a house that they both fondly remember for the friends, food and art. Bishop has been doing adventurous art ever since, and the two have stayed close. So, naturally, Jessica thought they should have a show at Small World.

Small World Coffee will host an Opening party and Sale for Martha on Dec. 8, from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.. They will present purchaseable art quilts which will be displayed for the duration of the show. They will also offer for sale, for that day only, an array of colorful pillows, scarves, potholders and blankets--all made from boiled, felted wool salvaged from old sweaters.

"My studio is in my kitchen," Martha says, "so I can sew and cook at the same time. I did ceramics and drawing in college, but sewed a lot when I was little. I love combining the old and the new. The Gees Bend quilts really inspire my quilting. For my other items, I like using thrown-out sweaters as this lets me make something out of nothing. And I get to go to thrift stores, which combines business with pleasure! Sewing is very fun because friends can get together to do it, and then chat and eat--what could be better? I like the circles that I use in my creations because they look like cookies, donuts or candy. I think that's why people are attracted to them."
