Racers on tour at Mt. St. Helens, 1991.

I just came across this snapshot I took in 1991 when M and I spent a month driving around the USA tenting and couchsurfing. It’s a goofy time of year for it, but just had to scan it in and put it up here.

We saw these guys when were sightseeing Mt. St. Helens. The moonscape of the mountain was making a glorious, well-flowered comeback.

They are obviously hot racer dudes most of the summer. But that didn’t stop them from strapping racks onto their race bikes and popping a couple pans and a stuffsack onto each and heading out for a few days (a week?) in the country.

Yeah, 15 lbs of ordinary camp stuff is about all ya need for a good spell of sightseeing on wheels. I’ve long said that I’m too wimpy to try to haul a full load around. I’d rather just bring the things I actually use each day. When you’re out looking around that doesn’t add up to much.

See ya out there next summer!
