A Decent “Best Song” List

Another “500 top songs of all time” list just out from Rolling Stone: Why just rock? I suppose because it’s from RS we can just assume. But what about Standards, Folk-tunes, Blues, Country, Hymns? They’re songs. They’re even Pop. As types they should go head to head with Rock.

(And, of course, we’re assuming “…in English” with such a list.)

Are there better lists out there? I’d like to see Sinatra, Leadbelly and Hank be allowed to go toe-to-toe.

OK, here’s a list that seems far better, as it includes what we really think of as “songs” rather than just “babyboomer FM radio. It’s a delight to scan over. If someone wants to write a good tune this is their real competition:

Heavy hitters from all styles and times!

A cool thing about the Net is that the walls have come down. And the collective memory is better. So, c’mon, list-makers! Ya can’t fool us! Otherwise, the laughing gets louder.
