Title: Silent Sports July 2010

[$4 mailed sample. SOLD!]

“Silent Sports” is a dandy magazine of outdoor enthusiams — mostly of the fitness, aerobic, human-powered kind.

I sell samples to let a wider audience know about this fine magazine. It’s not available on many newstands outside its main WI/MN markets.

This issue offers Part 3 of a “How to Run a Fast Marathon” series. I also have Parts 1 & 2 you can order, in previous issues. –Great info for a serious runner! (Let me know and you can get all 3 issues for $8, mailed.)

It also offers an in-depth look at unique cycling opportunities in Chicago: the LSD Fest and the bikes-on-trains program.

Other mags of this type tend to be free metro-area tabloids which have a couple puff pieces or profiles surrounded by race fliers. “SS” is somewhat like this but it expands on all the topics and covers a wider range. It has more, longer articles — and also event listings and a calendar.

It emphasizes WI and MN, but IL, MI and IN are included, too. Heck, it ranges even farther afield on occasion.

The main thing is that I think it’s like a democratic “Outside.” It has a much more moderate and affordable level of adventure. No helicopters feature in, no need for passports to get the kind of outdoor action described in “SS.” Yet it still offers plenty of wish-lists! There’s a whole lot of thrifty action to be had out there! It’s the only subscription “real” magazine to fill us in on the same. I think it’s really of national scope.
