A great day for the Potto Raid!

We had the best-ever turnout with 22 on the line. 10 ended up doing the full Potto.

Big bonfire picnic afterward. With chairs. Lots of prizes (microbrew sixpacks, JiffMix, and OYB media!).

Super-duper snow conditions. The best ever! –Gave perfect entre’ to the glorious Pinckney backcountry. Sunny, 5-20F. The deadly descents were well-padded. Skis were protected by a great base.

The leader’s pace was perfect for a max performance: 50% effort-level for first hour, 75% for 2nd, 100% for last drooling hour. 110% for last mile, after I made my Move on the biggest, longest hill…with 5 hills (and tricky descents) to go.

17 mi’s, 3:05 winning time, yours truly co-champ with Speedy Ben Caldwell. Top 4 within 5-10 minutes.

Easy, steady waxing (plus a piece of trail-breaking) kept front runners together longer than ever.

Only one sizeable injury — knee log contusion.

Brian Beauchamp, visitor from Up North, said he had a glorious day, and that it was a wonderful event — he came in 5th, the 1st on no-wax skis. Jen Conine — 1st lady Potto (Lite) finisher.
