[BUMP from 12/6/05] “The Jolly Christmas Postman” is a nice Xmas kid’s book—it’s about a mailman on a bike who’s hauling some nifty letters in his nicely rumpled shoulderbag.
The story content is all well and good but a bike buff will enjoy the bike vibe! Our little mailman rides through a bunch of lovely winter scenes. His bike and outfit look so comfy, rumpled and classic. His SHOULDERBAG, though, is what really gets me. Sure, it’s a bit big, but darn a bag like that would be cool! –Like a messenger bag only canvas (leather points would be nice) for soft rumplyness and class. Not everyone needs the sports-vibe of a nylon urban bag.
Actually, the country scenes and the idea of a biking mailman also are greatly appealing in this book.
The details, if you have to know, are that it features a bunch of fairytale characters and its main claim to cute kid’s book distinction would be that there’s a nifty pull-out letter and envelope for each fairytale. To me, I wish these books had deeper storyline content but nice artwork and gimmicks seems enough for todays’ publishers so what can ya do (buy OLD CLASSIC kids’ books for one thing!).
