The “Great Divide Race” is under way!

You are currently viewing The “Great Divide Race” is under way!

This is a solo, unsupported 2500-mile race down the Continental Divide from Canada to Mexico. It goes on trails and dirt roads. It looks like about 10 racers are doing it this year. It’s pretty casual. And pretty max rockin’ intense. The winner last year finished in about 15 days. Lessee what happens this year!

Here’s the main blog for racer update info. The racers themselves are reporting in on how they’re doing: www.greatdividerace.blogspot.com/.

This is racing at its best.

Here’s a pic of the current leader Matthew Lee, who’s a full *state* ahead of the others a week into this race.

What’s more, Matthew is running a blog while he races. He set it up ahead of time then phones in audio clips as he rolls along. Check it out: www.tourdivide.blogspot.com/

And check out how light he’s traveling in this pic. This set-up is what mt-bike tourists are using more often these days as bike touring takes on more aspects of ultralight backpacking. They go for 10 lbs of stuff and carry a pack for water and gear to keep weight off bike, so it stays nimble. I can hardly wait to see more UL *road* bike touring evolution.
