“No Child Left Inside”: seems like a good idea!

I guess this quickly gets into nasty politics, unlike anything on OYB (true…and intentionally so, eh?).

They say that the No Child Left Behind campaign has resulted in the slashing of Enviro Ed which in turn has created a huge enviro awareness gap between rich and poor schools. Or something like that.

The Michigan DNR is one group that is pushing the NCLI concept. I dunno what they’re doing to help, though.

“Nature Deficit Disorder” is another slogan I saw.

I do see mentions of lots of BILLS. Law, that’s what we need! But…”Where’s the law, Drew?”

I’m thinking more of an all-ages, all-gender Scouting movement — neighborhood based with a zero barrier to entry or participation.

Maybe it’s as simple as parents shoving their kids out the screen door and saying “don’t come back til supper!”

Ooh, but they’ll be abused and kidnapped! Uh, no, they won’t. Fear is used to SELL STUFF (or to sell IDEAS). It’s not a helpful way to depict reality.

But we’ve turned America into a transient shelter — people live somewhere for short times then move on. Funny how that term used to be applied to bums, and still is. Yet that’s what we’ve turned our whole nation into.

Nearly all the dozen or so houses between our house and my parents have been sold multiple times in the past decade. I’d guess that several immediately neighboring home-owners have turned-over at least 3 times in the past 5 years alone. Is there a curse? Is it being American? Or, maybe it’s Michiganian in particular.

That nukes accountability, doesn’t it? But hiding isn’t the answer.
