Saroca! ---The "sail row canoe" boat! Sa-Ro-Ca!

September 17, 2006

Saroca! What a clever name.

As you know, I've been on the hunt for a versatile boat. Here's one that does it all! Sail, row and paddle!

It looks like it has an assymmetric hull design, wider at the back, to accomodate the rearward re-weighting that the occupants do when sailing. Neat.

It has hatches front and rear to cover the paddler's ports when not in use---and keep water out, which would otherwise get in the boat during normal hull motion during sailing. These two hatches are probably also good places for stowing gear.

The boat has been around since the mid-80's. I'm surprised I hadn't heard of it before. Looks like a nice all-rounder!
