Do guns and bikes go together?

Now here’s a live one. Has it been done yet? Worse than helmets?

Anyway, what with much of the nation coming to its senses and more readily issuing concealed permits to law-abiding citizens, it seems like a topic that might come up.

Better safe than sorry seems a good approach. Tuck it away and forget about it. Handlebar bag? –But not on a bike with any theft risk I suppose….

I recall old vintage ads for a brand of revolver billed as ‘the Cyclist’s Friend’ for proof against ‘dogs, brigands and wild animals’. —Seems like a similar world out there still.

In fact, I just saw an article on this that recommended a snubnose .357 or 9mm. Ouch. Way too heavy for a last resort

emergency tool seems to me. The new .32 American Arms autoloader is the smallest/best I hear. A derringer or .22 American Arms Mini might be other alts.

I’ve had quite a few incidents, but none this bad thank heavens.

Still, I’d think remote tourists, et al, might be interested.

I did get maced one early morning by a motorist pretending to stop and help on a lonely stretch. I’m more cautious now.

Worse intentions are out there. Be prepared?

On a lighter note: have you seen the new McGyver tool by Topeak? Wow! Possibly the most intense multibiketool yet.

However, no headset, bb, or even CONE wrenches it didn’t appear. The kitchen sink is there though. Very glam. But perhaps there’s a better a 100% dedicated bike tool with those other devices mentioned, needed for touring. I recall carrying maybe 15 lbs in tools my first tour. Ouch.
