PBP Live Online! —World’s Hugest “People’s Ride”

Here’s a link to a live online map that shows how the riders are doing at Paris-Brest-Paris.

PBP is a 100+ year old bike tour that’s run nonstop. It goes about 750 miles. Folks take a few days to do it usually. They sleep as much or as little as they like in gyms along the way. THOUSANDS do this huge tour called a randonneur. PBP is the king of rando’s, for sure. It’s only held every 4 years. (I’m going off the top of my head for this info…ahem.)

Anyway, this map is pre-selected to show the recumbent riders in this edition of PBP. There are about 120 bents under way right now.

Benters named Wessels and Sijbrandij are way ahead. These are champion benters but I’m not sure if they’re ahead of ALL cyclists of all types. It seems likely to me that they are. These guys rock. They have GPS units attached to them. Perhaps not all the riders, or top riders, do.

UPDATE: The 2 fast HPVers used the supercool Quest velomobile. They finished in about 50 hours, about 5 hours behind the best packs of uprighters. It would be neat to see if they were any more comfortable along the way, in their full-suspension, sheltered mobiles.
