Energy & Experience Addicts Anonymous

I feel that to a large extent I swallowed a bill of goods during my young adult years which resulted in my being an addict of various types of sensuality. Of course I didn’t see it as that at the time. My proposed new AA group is perhaps overly general. Maybe I mean ‘Adventure Anonymous’, but maybe that’s too limiting.

There’s a big encouragement at all times to do things for what appears to be ‘their own sake’. –I’m just cycling to bicycle: pure, no other motive, how fine. But that creates its own energy, which you can then get hooked on. And it ain’t so pure anymore. Things take on a life of their own! And it’s not YOUR life anymore.

I think that MOST if not all of the big ideas bandied about in modern art and literature neglect the aspect that each idea needs to be expressed in the right way at the right time. They are not always true or good. Thus telling the world about drugs as writers did in the 1950’s resulted in little consciousness expansion and lots of abuse. And even consciousness expansion needs to be done properly…with expansion of conscience staying ahead of it. Things are not good in themselves FOR PEOPLE. They’re good on their own, sure. But humanity is about relation, not things. Relation requires proper timing.

In the end it seems that the main that modern artists desired was fame and riches, so they let the cool cats they discovered out of the bag willy nilly. There is a reason why important life information is given out only when the receiver is ready for it, only in controlled situations. There’s a reason why GUIDES and COACHES are needed. In one form or another. Mainly in the principle of the thing.

What is the guiding, teaching principle behind your sport, adventure, hitch-hiking, experiencing, relationships, romance? A good coach doesn’t always even let the student know what the end result is either. Because they can’t comprehend it at that point. If they could they wouldn’t need a coach. A coach is not necessarily a person. It’s mainly a principle. A conscience. But you can’t predict it. It’s ahead of what you call your You. It has to be. Is this mentioned in the modern lit of Just Do It?

The AA group is a way to generate the principle of the Guide among a small group of properly intentioned folk who want to understand their situation, to live right in it.

Those of us who are hip to Quality, to Good Gear, to Action….adventure…experience… need these principles as much as anyone.

Check yourself: are you using all your good stuff and good experience to become a better person? If so, you’re an addict. You got pride. And a fall in store that a carrabiner even if it’s titanium can’t belay.
