Noise Pollution and Rudeness

I can’t believe the noise levels America tolerates in its public rec. Campgrounds in Europe I went to were very polite and quiet. —Thus diverse groups could get along. It seems obvious as day is long. Mostly windsurfers on the sunny Dutch canals.

I myself wouldn’t mind powerboats, snowmobiles or jetskis if they were quiet.

Is it inherent in the 2-cycle engine? Are there alternatives? Are there any quiet skis or snowmobiles out there? (There are some quiet powerboats… due to engine choice variety.)

But it just amazes me when I go to populated lakes with houses around them…every day people’s ‘private’ back yards sound like chainsaw and demolition zones. —Due to most of the jetskis (maybe some are quiet?) and a small fraction of powerboaters who run souped up engines without mufflers.

The other day I decided that the worst things about our culture are rudeness and noise. If civics lessons could be revised to focus on just those two things…we’d make a big jump up.
