What is Alien Superiority?
I doubt we’d be able to comprehend the nature of the superiority
of an essentially superior alien unless they explained it to us. They may
not look superior, we might not be able to see them, we might not
even notice their effect on us. They could still be superior and still
explain how so. We are intelligent, we have selfhood, so we could
understand how something was better than us, if only by analogy.
But we could not know if they were telling us all they knew.
Can animals know how or why we are superior to them? We’d be in the
same boat vis-a-vis an alien that was at a higher level than we are.
Humanity isn’t Automatic
Every animal grows up to be exactly what it ought to be, given
its circumstances. The human animal is the only one where this result
is in doubt. In fact, it’s entirely open-ended. A person may well NOT
be able to take care of itself at the end of its development. Without
extensive proper training, in fact, perhaps NO people could take care of
themselves (and their families of course). This suggests an interesting
diversion between animals and humans: ~100% guarantee function as
designed after development cycle for animals. ~0% guarantee of proper
function for humans without special variable outside input.
